We put seaweed (Gracillaria) in one of the ponds last week, but the water is way too salty. 45 ppt (ocean is 32 ppt). I was not anticipating so much evaporation. I guess since the water is shallow it is making a big difference. This is not good for the Gracillaria. I hope it doesn’t die. I’m sure it isn’t even thinking about trying to grow roots yet. I asked one of the farmers to pump water in when the river is not salty (or dirty).
We expect the baby seabass to arrive on Friday. Now I have to figure out the best pond for them, now that I know we have salinity issues. Oy!
